Nearly half of the people who reach the age of 65 will have to spend some time in a nursing home. Without proper planning, the expenses from living in a nursing home may eventually reduce or possibly destroy a lifetime’s accumulation of hard-earned assets. While receiving care in a nursing home persons may fall subject to what is called the “Spend Down Rule.” This rule may require individuals to consume their assets until all they have left is $3,000, which could cause loved ones to be disinherited.
